Garlic Bread Recipe from Scratch

Baking bread is an interesting and exciting activity. If you have tried cooking all sorts of bread, you can sometimes bake something not quite standard – both in appearance and composition.

We will give you two recipes on how to make garlic bread. A simple recipe that will take 15 minutes and the one where you will prepare bread yourself.

We suggest cooking fragrant, spicy garlic bread with the addition of cornflour. With it, bread not only acquires a sunny color but also has a tender crumb and a crispy crust.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Simple recipe

Step 1.
Prepare the ingredients.
Step 2.
Preheat the oven to 350 ° F degrees. Cover the baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Step 3.
Cut the baguette in half lengthwise.
Step 4.
In a small bowl, mix the softened butter and crushed garlic.
Step 5.
Spread the resulting garlic mixture on both halves of the baguette, then sprinkle evenly with chopped parsley.
Step 6.
Place the smeared fragrant baguette on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until the butter melts and the bread becomes slightly crispy at the edges.

Bon Appetit!

Homemade garlic bread

Step 1.
In a small bowl, pour yeast and sugar. Pour in the required amount of water and mix a little. Cover the bowl and leave for 10-15 minutes to activate the yeast, i.e. a foam cap should appear.

Step 2.
In another, larger bowl, mix wheat and cornflour, add salt.

Step 3.
As soon as the yeast is activated, pour them into the flour mixture together with olive oil.

Knead a smooth, elastic dough. Cover the bowl and leave for an hour and a half (approximately) in a warm place to rise.

Step 4.
While our dough is getting ready, prepare the garlic oil.

To do this, simply peel the garlic cloves from the husk and, cutting in half, take out the green sprouted middle.

Then you need to chop the garlic cloves in any convenient way, the easiest way is to pass through the press. And then simply pour olive oil, add a mixture of Provencal herbs and salt. Beat everything a little with a fork and set aside to brew.

As soon as the dough has doubled in volume, proceed to the formation of bread.

Step 5.
Take it out on the work surface, sprinkled with a small amount of flour for convenience, and roll it into a layer 0.2 in thick.

Grease it with fragrant garlic oil and cut it into strips about 2-2.5 in wide. If you have a special roller pizza knife, we advise you to use it – it cuts without stretching the dough.

Step 6.
One of the strips is rolled up and set vertically on a prepared baking sheet lined with baking paper.

Step 7.
The remaining strips are laid in a spiral shape around the first roll one by one until they are all placed on the sheet.

As a result, you should get a wide, low roll. We set it aside for proofing for 20 minutes, until the oven heats up to 375 °F degrees.

Bake for about 30 minutes until nicely browned. If the top blushes too quickly (we have different ovens, with their characteristics), then cover it with a sheet of foil.

Step 8.
As soon as it cools down, you can eat it. If you want, cut it into pieces or you can just tear off bread ribbons saturated with garlic-olive flavors.

Bon appetit!

Best Tips for Success

  • To get a crisper, golden crust, you can also put the bread in the oven with the possibility of turning on the “upper” heat for 1-2 minutes (make sure that the garlic bread does not burn).
  • Add a little bit of grated cheese before baking garlic bread.
